ENGIE announces billion-dollar investment in Brazil

ENGIE Brasil is the largest private energy generator in Brazil, owning hydroelectric and thermoelectric plants

ENGIE Brasil announced that it will raise funds in the order of R$ 7.6 billion to expand its business in Brazil. Fundraising will include issuing debentures, taking out loans abroad and carrying out foreign exchange derivative transactions.

ENGIE Brazil is the largest private energy generator in Brazil, having hydroelectric, thermoelectric, biomass, wind, small hydroelectric plants (PCHs) and solar plants. ENGIE has a very strong and rapidly expanding operating arm in the segment of distributed generation photovoltaic systems, through its subsidiary ENGIE Geração Solar Distribuída SA.

Controlled by the Franco-Belgian group of the same name, ENGIE's Brazilian subsidiary is headquartered in Florianópolis-SC and has more than 1,100 employees. In 2018, it had gross revenue of USD 2.2 billion. Listed on BOVESPA (ENGIE3), the company has shown significant appreciation in the last 12 months.
