The MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), the MRE (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the EPE (Energy Research Company) met, this Tuesday (8), with leaders of 45 private groups and Brazilian business associations to present Brazil's lines of action in the UN High-Level Dialogue on Energy.

Businesspeople were detailed about the main aspects of the exercise and how this can help open up opportunities for large national groups, whether they are producers or consumers of energy.

Executives were also informed that companies can present energy pacts, in the form of voluntary commitments to decarbonization or the promotion of clean energy.

The High-Level Dialogue is the first global energy meeting organized by the UN since the conference on new and renewable sources of energy, held in Nairobi in 1981. According to the MME, Brazil plays a prominent role in the initiative, having been nominated by the world organization as one of the “global champions” for the topic of energy transition.

In this context, member countries can present voluntary commitments related to the objective of ensuring reliable, sustainable, modern and affordable access to energy. In the coming weeks, the Brazilian government is expected to present two government energy pacts, focused on the biofuels and hydrogen sectors.

Next Thursday (17), an informative meeting is planned with the UN secretariat, open to representatives of the national private sector interested in formatting energy pacts to be presented in the context of the High Level Dialogue.

The intention is to provide visibility for ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) actions on themes centered on clean and renewable energy. The dialogue will take place throughout 2021 and should culminate on the eve of the next United Nations General Assembly in New York, next September.
