A global energy crisisl triggered by the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine wushered in profound changes that are helping the planet accelerate the energy transition, reveals the newest report of IAE (International Energy Agency).
According to the entity, the global concern with the supply of natural gas, coal and electricity, Is doing with which the main countries around the world accelerate the increase in renewable energy in their matrices.
Us U.S, for example, Congress approved a budget of more than U$ 370 billion for investments in clean energy. O same also happens in other nations around the world, such as Japan, India, South Korea and China.
In total, the entity estimates that the global investment in clean energy, such as solar, wind and biomass, should increase by more than 50% by the end of 2030, jumping from US$ 1.3 trillion to more than US$ 2 trillion per year.
Increase in emissions
Despite all the movement in favor of renewables, a new study released by UN (United Nations) shows that the environmental policies adopted are not enough to stop global warming.
According to the authors of the report, even with the goals put into practice, the planet's temperature could increase between 2.1ºC and 2.9ºC by the end of this decade in relation to the pre-industrial era - a rate well above the target for Paris Agreement, which is 1.5ºC.
The UN's current estimate is that the planet will record an increase of 10.6% in carbon emissions by 2030, compared to 2010 levels.
The scenario, at least, improved compared to the assessment made last year, which said that countries would increase emissions by 13.7% by the end of the decade.
For the UN Executive Secretary for Climate Change, Simon Stiell, investments in renewables need to continue growing over the next few years.
To achieve this, he states that governments will need to review their climate plans and make them even more ambitious.
COP 27
On the 6th and 18th of November, leaders from different regions of the world will gather in Egypt to participate in the COP 27 – the 27th Conference of the Parties – with the aim of discussing necessary actions to improve the climate and the environment.
“COP 27 is the moment when global leaders can regain momentum on climate change, make the necessary transition from negotiations to implementation, and advance the massive transformation that must occur across all sectors of society to address the climate emergency” , Stiell highlighted.
