Auction for isolated systems will have renewable option with batteries

The event is scheduled for December; public consultation receives contributions until June 21st

Scheduled for December this year, the next Auction for Supply to Isolated Systems brings significant news to reduce carbon emissions in the Amazon region.

This week, the Public Consultation No. 167/2024 to discuss with society the guidelines of this event, whose contribution deadline runs until June 21st.

Among the guidelines, the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) requires that the solutions presented contain a minimum share of 20% of renewable sources, with or without energy storage.

The contribution to the CO2 reduction will be considered in the classification of the winning proposal. This is the first time that this solution is required in this type of auction

“This auction aims to reduce the dependence on diesel oil in Isolated Systems, which is still responsible for more than 60% of the current generation, the emission of greenhouse gases and, consequently, the expenses of the CCC (Fuel Consumption Account)”, declared the Minister Alexandre Silveira, in a press release.

Isolated Systems are regions of Brazil disconnected from the YES (National Interconnected System), covering parts of the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia and Roraima, in addition to the Island of Fernando de Noronha (PE). Around 3 million consumers in these regions depend on diesel oil to obtain electricity, albeit in a precarious way.

In this auction, energy and power contracted for 15 municipalities in the states of Amazonas and Pará. The contracts will last 15 years, with supply starting between 2027 and 2030.

  • Lot 3 – 9.9 MW (AC)
