Existing Energy Auctions generate savings of R$ 234.5 million for Brazilian consumers

Competitive processes negotiated contracts to complement distributors’ demand in nine states

A CCEE (Electricity Trading Chamber) and the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) carried out, on the last Friday (01), Os Auctions in Existing Energy A-1 and A-2 2023, which negotiated 751 MW medium and generated one economy of R$ 234.5 million to the consumers Brazilians.

The competitions aim to complement the demand of distributors in the states of Alagoas, Ceará, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraná, Piauí, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

According to Alexandre Ramos, president of the CCEE Board of Directors, the event was very successful in its purpose of enabling the acquisition of electricity for companies and homes in the regulated market in an efficient and safe way. “Once again, the partnership between institutions in the sector generates good results for society as a whole.”

The auction called A-1, which will start supplying energy in January 2024, raised an amount of R$ 754.9 million to contract 473 average MW of electricity. Companies such as Alupar, BTG Pactual, EDP, ENEL, Gold Energia, Itaú and Squadra were the winners. The discount recorded was 9.03%, which generated savings of R$ 74.9 million compared to the initial price.

The A-2 auction, which will begin supply in January 2025, achieved a total of R$ 570.9 million in transactions to acquire 278 average MW. The winning companies were BTG Pactual, CTG Trading, Gold Energia, Itaú, Rio Paranapanema and Safira. The average discount recorded was 21.85%, resulting in a saving of R$ 159.6 million compared to the established maximum price.
