A Manaus City Council approved, this Monday (15), a Bill which establishes a incentive campaign to the use of solar energy in the capital of Amazonas.
O goal of the proposal, authored by councilor Lissandro Breval (Avante), aims to create mechanisms to inform the population about the benefits of technology for the environment, in addition to reducing the value of the electricity bill.
In its scope, the text defends the Implementation of the solar energy systems in schools, colleges, hospitals, medical clinics, laboratories and healthcare establishments, as well as businesses and industries.
For the councilor, the solar energy incentive also increases competitiveness in attracting companies, helping Manaus and the State of Amazonas to develop. “Remembering that we are in the Amazon and being questioned all the time about sustainability”, said the councilor.
According to ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), the Amazon is the Brazilian state with the largest number of cities that do not have at least one solar energy system installed in homes, commercial establishments and the like.
Currently, of the 5,570 municipalities that exist in Brazil, only 43 meet these conditions, of which 24 are located in Amazonas. The vast majority of these cities are remote communities that do not even have access to electricity.

Aiming to improve these indices and bring a better quality of life to residents of isolated regions of the state, the Government of Amazonas recently launched a program with the aim of strengthening tourism in remote communities who do not yet have access to electricity through the use of photovoltaic systems.
The project, titled “Amazon Shines”, has a partnership with Amazonastur (State Tourism Company) to distribute solar energy kits to locations that have tourism as their main source of income. Find out more by clicking here.
