According to a survey carried out by CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber), the Free Energy Market closed the month of July 2021 with 9,463 consumers, an increase of 19% when compared to the end of the same period in 2020.

The free category, compared to July last year, jumped from 990 to 1,106 consumers in 2021, a growth of 11.7%. Meanwhile, those qualified as special increased from 6,957 to 8,357, an increase of 20.1%. In July, agents represented 24,738 consumer units, 30.2% more than in the same period in 2020.

“At the beginning of the pandemic, energy prices plummeted due to a large reduction in demand for energy. In this context, migration to Mercado Livre became even more attractive, as the economy in relation to captivity grew significantly”, said specialist Marina Brandão, partner at BM Consultoria.

“The result was only determined by CCEE now, just over a year later. This occurs due to the migration process that depends on the date of the contract between the consumer and the distributor, in addition to the adaptation requirements. For the consumer to become free, in some cases the process takes up to 1 year”, he added.

More data

In addition to consumers, 1,755 energy generators are also CCEE agents, including self-producers, independent producers and those operating as public services. The Chamber of Marketing also includes 50 distributors and 433 traders. In total, according to the most recent data, the organization had 11,701 members at the end of July. In the month, there were 1,035 adhesion processes in progress, which should increase these numbers.

Another highlight goes to the 35 qualified retailers in the retail category, who can fully represent their consumers before the CCEE, so that their customers do not need to be Chamber agents.
