Details such as cell spacing and design reference were also agreed to form a group pattern across 210 modules.

In November last year, eight world-leading photovoltaic brands, including Trina Solar, Zhonghuan Semiconductor and Risen Energy, began to promote the standardization of 210mm silicon wafer modules in the photovoltaic industry.

As of May, the 210 standardization process has achieved great results and is expected to be formally launched soon by the China Photovoltaic Industry Association.

This is significantly increasing the value of the photovoltaic industry chain and system level.

Hitting the deal: uniform size for 210 modules

On May 26, 2021, the China Photovoltaic Industry Association organized an online seminar on module size standardization. Fifty experts, representatives from module manufacturers, developers, system solution providers and third-party organizations, including Trina Solar, Risen Energy, Canadian Solar, Tongwei and TÜV SÜD, agreed on the modules' overall dimensions and mounting hole technical specifications.

Technical details such as cell spacing and design reference standards were also agreed to form a group standard. This means that 210 module manufacturers, end users and system solution providers have achieved uniformity in technical matters.

Module standardization will significantly reduce BOS and LCOE costs, and provide the convenience and maximum value of ultra-high power modules and solutions for solar applications.

For 110 half cells (55 full cells), the length is determined as 2384 ± 2 mm, the width as 1096 ± 2 mm, and the mounting hole positions on the longest side are placed at 400/1400 ± 1 mm. The following is a breakdown of the dimensions of the three 210 products:

Furthermore, all 210 module manufacturers will design products according to the latest international standard IEC/UL 61730. Module standardization benefits the solar industry and maximizes the IRR of the solar plant.

Increasing module power and reducing power generation costs has become an inevitable trend. The standardization of the 210 module will directly benefit the solar industry, EPCs and project developers.

Standardizing the 210mm wafer, cell and module size will directly result in lower BOS costs and the supply chain will become more efficient, achieving optimal scaling effect.

Furthermore, industrial technical innovation must be accelerated, reducing manufacturing costs for the industry chain, initial investment in photovoltaic systems and LCOE and ensuring IRR.
