The Government of Paraíba announced that it will make two major investments in the solar energy sector, aiming at social commitment to the environment. The State basically promised to build the largest solar panel factory in Latin America, in João Pessoa, and the largest solar park in Brazil, between the municipalities of Santa Luzia and São Mamede.
The solar panel factory is expected to come into operation in January 2022, in the Industrial District of João Pessoa, in a construction area of 18 thousand m2. More than R$ 70 million was invested in its construction, with expected revenue of R$ 160 million in the first year of operation.
The space will be managed by the Balfar Solar group, which foresees an estimated production of more than 150 thousand pieces of solar panels per year, with a power of 340 to 450 Wp for the national market. The company estimates that it will generate around 100 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs, the majority of which will be local labor.
According to Governor João Azevêdo, the idea of making the two complexes viable is to make Paraíba a national reference in the photovoltaic sector and, at the same time, generate new business opportunities and the capacity to expand the supply of jobs and income for the population.
The Santa Luzia Solar Complex will consist of 28 photovoltaic solar plants of 58MWp, totaling 1,625 GW of capacity, in an area of 1,700 hectares. The initial investment forecast is R$ 4.1 billion, with the creation of more than 2 thousand jobs in the region.
