A Petrobras released, this Thursday (23), its new strategic plan for the period of 2024 to 2028, with investments of US$ 102 billion – the equivalent of R$ 500 billion.

The main novelty is the contributions to renewable energy and decarbonization, what total US$ 11.5 billion (around R$ 56.4 billion), which includes investments in solar and wind power plants, in green hydrogen and in biorefining.

In total, investments in clean energy sources represent just over 10% of the total value that will be allocated to the company's plan over the next five years.

Amounts that will be allocated to low carbon projects:

  • US$ 3.9 billion for decarbonization of operations (emissions mitigation and decarbonization fund);
  • US$ 5.5 billion for low-carbon energy (wind, solar, hydrogen and carbon capture);
  • US$ 1.5 billion in biorefining (production of renewable diesel and renewable aviation kerosene);
  • US$ 700 million for R&D (research and development) projects.

Oil and Gas

Of the US$ 102 billion that will be invested, the majority (US$ 73 billion) will be allocated to the exploration and production of oil and gas, with a focus on activities related to the pre-salt – which, by 2028, according to Petrobras, it should represent almost 80% of the state-owned company’s total production.

“The company reinforces that investments must be financed primarily by operational cash flow, at levels equivalent to similar companies, and preferably through partnerships that allow sharing of risks and expertise, and must seek return on investment, reduction of the cost of capital, strengthening Petrobras as an integrated energy company, maximizing the company’s value”, highlights the state-owned company’s plan.
