Piauí will receive the largest photovoltaic project in South America

The expectation is that when operational the plant will generate more than 1,200 GWh/year

Enel Green Power, a Brazilian renewable generation subsidiary, started a 475 MW solar energy generation project located in São Gonçalo do Gurgueia, in the state of Piauí.

Considered the largest photovoltaic project in South America, the project has already received an investment of R$ 1.6 billion. Now Enel is preparing to invest a further R$ 422 million in a 133 MW extension to the plant.

Built with bifacial modules, the expectation is that when in operation the plant will generate more than 1,200 GWh/year, which would avoid the emission of around 600 thousand tons of CO2.

Among the 475 MW installed, more than 200 MW will generate energy for the free market and the remainder will be allocated to a group of distributors with energy negotiated in auctions organized by the government.
