SIMA (Secretariat of Infrastructure and Environment) of São Paulo signed a protocol with GBC (Green Building Council) to make 566 public buildings self-sufficient in energy. The partnership is based on the Zero Energy Project and is initially aimed at the 22 municipalities in Vale do Ribeira.

Currently, the region spends more than R$ 4.3 million on energy in public buildings. Already across the state, the cost of energy with 16 thousand owned buildings reaches R$ 600 million per year.

The collaboration with GBC is still part of SIMA's Vale do Futuro Program, which aims to make the region a new development hub.

“This partnership with GBC will significantly contribute to achieving the state's goal of reducing electricity expenditure by the State Administration by 30% by 2022, which is equivalent to savings of R$ 200 million/year”, emphasized Marcos Penido, state secretary of Infrastructure and Environment.

“Our objective is to start this action in Vale do Ribeira to reduce the socioeconomic vulnerability of the region. Next, we intend to replicate the Zero Energy concept in different parts of the state”, added the secretary.

According to SIMA, work plans will begin to be developed this month. The expectation is to see initial results in the 1st quarter of 2021.
