O Brazilian photovoltaic market is experiencing significant growth, recently reaching the milestone of 40 GW of installed capacity in solar energy, adding large-scale plants and own generation systems, show data recorded by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

In the last three years, the operational capacity of solar sources has grown more than four times in Brazil. This growing share of solar energy in the electrical matrix highlights the importance of the quality and reliability of the equipment used in photovoltaic plants.

With the market's need to maximize energy generation per installed power and reduce energy production costs (LCOE) per unit generated, careful selection of components becomes crucial.

In this context, the Risen Energy, in partnership with ABGD (Brazilian Association of Distributed Generation), launched a series of videos on the interpretation of the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standard.

The objective is to inform and raise awareness prosumers – consumers who produce their own energy – and energy investors solar about the importance of compliance with quality standards in the selection of equipment for its plants.

According to the manufacturer, this initiative aims not only to promote the adoption of good practices when choosing photovoltaic components, but also contribute to the construction of a more solid and reliable sector, aligned with best international practices.

The company also highlighted that to really understand something, you need to put it into practice. “To help the industry better understand the IEC 61215 standard and product performance, Risen Energy, with the support of national PV laboratory CNAS, is proud to announce the launch of the IEC 61215 Performance Test Standard Interpretation video series. IEC PV modules”, he announced in a press release.

According to the manufacturer, the video series provides a detailed and intuitive introduction to the IEC standard requirements for PV module performance testing and demonstrates specific test methods in conjunction with Risen Energy's PERC and HJT products.

What is IEC?

Founded in 1906, IEC is the world's oldest international standards organization, responsible for international standardization work in the fields of electrical and electronic engineering.

The IEC 61215 standard, officially titled “Ground Photovoltaic (PV) Modules – Design Qualification and Type Approval”, has been the fundamental standard for PV module design and the basis for performance verification since its first publication in 1993.

With the continuous development of technology and the upgrading of photovoltaic products, the market has raised higher requirements for testing new high-efficiency modules.

On February 23, 2021, the 2021 edition of the IEC 61215 standard was officially released, being the second edition after the 2016 edition and the fourth major iteration in the development of the IEC 61215 standard.

Since 2012, Risen Energy has had an Independent National Laboratory, for which it has obtained ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, making it one of the few companies early in the solar industry to obtain this accreditation.

According to the manufacturer, which is one of the leaders in the global photovoltaic market, the structure has technical capabilities to conduct test and calibration services under internationally recognized criteria, such as IEC 61215, IEC 61730-2 and UL 1703.

“Over the years, we have closely monitored the development trends of various new materials and products in the industry, and we have continually expanded and improved our testing capabilities,” highlighted the company in a statement.

Also according to Risen, in September 2022, the company successfully obtained the CNAS supervisory review and new standard expansion items, passing the reevaluation and expansion audit of the new IEC 61215-2:2021 standard.

“This not only marks a new height for the testing and calibration capabilities of Risen Energy’s CNAS laboratory, but also provides stronger and better testing support for product development, quality control, certification testing and other projects,” scored.
