Sabesp (Companhia de Saneamento Básico do Estado de São Paulo) continues to invest heavily in the installation of solar plants in cities in the interior of São Paulo, with the aim of continuing to invest in actions aimed at innovation, efficiency and energy sustainability.

After inaugurating, in February this year, the first solar plant of the “Photovoltaic Energy Generation Program by Distributed Generation”, in the municipality of Orindiúva, the company will now implement four more solar units in the cities of Conchas, Pederneiras, Salto de Pirapora and São Manuel.

According to Sabesp, each plant will be installed around the company's ETEs (Sewage Treatment Stations), totaling an installed capacity of 8 MW. The units have already been tendered and are just awaiting the completion of site installation, maintenance and conservation services for the area.

In these locations, the energy produced will generate credit compensation for the total electricity consumption that the company uses in its operational water and sewage facilities.

In total, the investment in the four photovoltaic plants will be R$ 30 million and the expectation is to start energy production in 2022, with the units in Pederneiras and Conchas coming into operation, followed by the photovoltaic plants in São Manuel and Salto de Pirapora.

Project details

The “Photovoltaic Energy Generation Program by Distributed Generation” has investments of around R$ 245 million. The amount is financed by the IDB (Inter-American Development Bank) and will be used to implement 33 photovoltaic plants in areas managed by Sabesp, in cities in the interior of São Paulo.

According to Sabesp, the photovoltaic plants that are installed will produce electrical energy from a clean and sustainable source, without emission of greenhouse gases and with a low environmental impact, contributing to expanding the production of renewable energy and diversifying Sabesp's energy matrix. The estimated energy generated corresponds to 4.5% of all electricity currently consumed by the company.
