In 2021, the institution granted around R$ 5.3 billion to the solar sector

Santander expects to double the amount of credit for solar energy in 2022, compared to 2021, and grant credit of approximately R$ 10 billion to finance the purchase of equipment and the installation of solar energy generating systems in homes and businesses.

The main objective is to contribute to the dissemination of solar energy throughout the country. In 2021, the institution granted around R$ 5.3 billion to the sector.

According to the bank, to achieve this goal the bank has adopted a strategy that involves offering plans with installments that are equal to the monthly cost of the conventional electricity bill, reaching below the value.

“Demand is driven mainly by the ease of credit for purchasing the photovoltaic system and its installation. The bank's commitment to democratizing the generation of clean energy in the country also helps to bring down equipment prices”, says Marcio Giovannini, executive superintendent of Goods and Services at Santander Financiamentos.

However, according to Giovannini, financial compensation for those who replace their electricity bill with a portion of financing is not the only incentive for photovoltaic generation. He highlights that there are other factors that drive the search for sustainable energy in Brazil.

One of them is the knowledge that the market has been acquiring about the benefits of this new form of generation – especially among consumers with environmental concerns. “Environmental motivation ends up being decisive for companies and homes to choose to switch”, adds the Santander executive.

Today, the Bank is responsible for approximately 35% of financing for photovoltaic projects on a commercial and residential scale in the Brazilian market. In 2021, Santander Financiamentos, Santander's finance company, tripled the number of commercial partners in the country compared to the number in 2019. Santander has been offering credit lines for sustainable financing since the beginning of 2017.

  1. A discussion that I raise. And the financing guarantees, the equipment itself could be the guarantee. It is robust and obsolescent is low and it even generates its own income.
