The manufacturer of photovoltaic inverters SMA estimates selling between €980 million (R$ 6.16 billion) and €1030 million (R$ 6.47 billion) by the end of 2021. Previously, the company projected sales between €1075 million (R$ 6.75 billion) and €1175 million R$ 7.38 billion).
According to the Board of Directors of the photovoltaic inverter manufacturer, the projection fell due to the lack of supply of electronic components, which is affecting the entire electronics industry.
“Due to the latest cancellations of firmly promised delivery quantities, which had a significant impact on SMA in the short term, contrary to expectations. We are also seeing that project developers and investors are postponing the implementation of larger PV projects until next year,” said Jürgen Reinert, CEO of SMA.

“We are in intense contact with our partners on the supplier side in order to develop suitable solutions to guarantee deliveries and compensate for delivery delays as much as possible in the coming weeks. We continue to expect sales in the second half of the year to be higher than the first half, but in our estimate to remain below the most recently projected level,” he added.
On the other hand, Reinert highlighted that the positive medium-term business outlook for SMA has not changed. “As part of the SMA 2025 Strategy, we are successfully driving the development of the product portfolio towards a decentralized energy supply system scenario. SMA has strategically positioned itself very well to benefit from the expected global growth of the photovoltaic sector, as well as the global storage market, and to consolidate its market position,” he concluded.
