SMA: new factory will increase production capacity by 40 GW

According to the company, the new unit will be dedicated to large-scale photovoltaic plants.

A SMA photovoltaic inverter manufacturer announced the construction of a new factory in Niestetal, Germany. Construction is scheduled for the end of this year with the aim of doubling production capacity, reaching almost 40 GW by 2024.

The project has a useful area of 47 thousand m² and will be designed to manufacture systems focused on the photovoltaic plants large scale. Furthermore, construction will expand the job market, with the creation of 200 new job opportunities.

Second Jürgen Reinert, CEO of SMA Solar, the company acts strategically in participating in the global growth of renewable energy, in addition to investing in direct relationships with the customer.

“We strategically position ourselves in all business fields relevant to future energy supply, enabling us to play a key role in the global growth of renewable energy. Furthermore, greater proximity to the customer will be an important factor, especially in the segment of large-scale photovoltaic plants”, comments Reinert.

“This will allow us to strengthen our excellence in technology development and improve our flexibility. We can further increase our capacity at any time, minimizing risks, dependencies and costs”, he adds.

“The announcement of the new factory comes after the intense experience at the Intersolar Europe fair and the understanding that the flow of capital to the renewable energy sector is expanding exponentially, with the challenges of decarbonization and the new geopolitical situation”, he explains André Gellers, Country Manager at SMA Brasil.

“It is launching one of the biggest initiatives in the European industrial recovery, mitigating dependencies in supply chains and guaranteeing SMA on the list of the most relevant companies in the energy revolution, for many more years”, he adds.
