A solar energy became the second largest source of electrical matrix Brazilian, surpassing wind farms and second only to hydroelectric plants, according to a survey published by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association).
Research shows that the source already has more than 23.85 GW of installed capacity – considering GC projects (centralized generation) and DG installations (distributed generation) – while wind projects total 23.75 GW and hydroelectric plants around 109.7GW.
According to ABSOLAR, since 2012, the solar energy has already brought to Brazil more of R$ 120.8 billion in new investments, more of 705 thousand jobs and more than R$ 38 billion in revenue for public coffers. In environmental terms, avoided the emission of 33.3 million tons of CO2.
For Ronaldo Koloszuk, president of the Board of Directors of ABSOLAR, the expectation of the entity for 2023 is that the source exceeds 33 GW of installed capacity It is surpass the one million job mark created.
“Brazil has one of the best solar resources on the planet, however, there is still a lack of good public policies to enable us to aim for solar leadership on a global scale,” he said.
Rodrigo Sauaia, CEO of ABSOLAR, highlights that the advancement of solar energy in Brazil is today fundamental for the social, economic and environmental development of the country.
“The technology helps to diversify the electrical matrix, increase supply security, reduce pressure on water resources and protect the population against further increases in electricity bills”, he explained.
