A SIMA (State Secretariat of Infrastructure and Environment) this month began the Integrated Energy Management Program in more than 30 thousand properties used in the state of São Paulo.
The goal is to reduce electricity expenditure by up to 30%, which today is approximately R$ 600 million annually, to R$ 420 million, within three years.
To this end, the plan will include energy generation with alternative sources, such as solar photovoltaics, biomass, solid waste, in addition to gas, biogas and biomethane.
“Among other actions, contracts with energy distributors will be reviewed, an analysis of migration to the free market will be carried out, and the use of distributed generation with gas for heating and cooling. The first departments that will benefit from the program will be Security, Health and Education”, explained Marcos Penido, secretary of SIMA.
“The expectation is that, with the economy, there will be more resources for departments to invest in services in their areas of activity, thus benefiting the entire population”, added Glaucio Atorre Penna, Undersecretary of Infrastructure.
The plan will also implement awareness campaigns, analysis, creation of procedures and standardization of program optimization and results.
Partnership with private initiative
SIMA is considering the possibility of local self-generation or distributed generation, in partnership with the private sector, contemplating various technical and economic-financial models, in order to relieve public coffers.
The expected investment is approximately R$ 28 million lasting 30 months. “The volume and diversity of consumers in the state allow economies of scale in these initiatives, considering regional particularities and demands, technological advances and opportunities available in the energy market”, comments Ricardo Jabbour, representative of the consortium responsible for carrying out the work.
