The South and Southeast regions of Brazil, formed by the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santos, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Santa Catarina, concentrate more than half of all installed solar energy power in the country, according to mapping by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association).
Released last Wednesday (10), the survey shows that the two regions of the country have together 2.8 GW of the 5.25 GW in operation in Brazil. This is an index that corresponds to 53.44% of the total energy produced in homes, businesses, industries and rural properties.
The study also shows that among the five states with the highest generation of solar energy, four are in the South or Southeast regions. They are: Minas Gerais, with 862.9 MW, São Paulo (582.1), Rio Grande do Sul (576.5) and Paraná (284.6). Mato Grosso, with generation of 345.6 MW, appears as an “intruder” on the list.
Santa Catarina, Rio de Janeiro and Espirito Santo occupy, respectively, 7th, 8th and 17th place in the ranking, with 227.3 MW; 187.8 MW and 84.9 MW of installed power. ABSOLAR's mapping also points out that Acre, Amapá and Roraima are the federative units with the worst performances and that together they account for just 0.5% of all solar energy produced in Brazil.
