TW Solar will present full range of modules at Intersolar Europe

Among the highlights are the panels with heterojunction technology with power exceeding 730 W

A TW Solar, one of the 10 largest producers of TIER 1 modules in the global market, announced that it will present at Intersolar Europe, which will be held from June 14th to 16th in Munich, Germany, its complete series of N-Type and P-Type modules to serve the sector in 2023 and 2024.

“The demand for solar photovoltaic energy is experiencing explosive growth in all markets around the world. The N-Type modules (TOPCon and HJT), which can reach power above 700 W and efficiency above 22%, are providing high gains in energy generation due to performance above the existing average”, said Luiz Eduardo Sobreira, Country Manager Brazil from TW Solar.

With the expansion of photovoltaic technology, the company stated that it has been growing its participation in the segment through the “verticalization” policy, operating in all sectors of the production chain, from cells, wafers and modules, as well as investing in R&D (Research and Development) for the creation of new technologies in recent years.

“Today, we are dedicated to producing cells of the following types: PERC, TPC type, TNC type TOPCon passive contact cells, heterojunction cells and back contact cells”, explained Jack Xu, technical director of TW Solar.

“The modules manufactured with Tongwei’s high-efficiency TNC technology have advantages such as: low degradation, low temperature coefficient, high bifacial energy generation rate and excellent response in low light conditions, contributing to greater electricity generation efficiency and lower LCOE,” Xu emphasized.

The executive also commented that the N-Type module (TWMNG-72HD), exhibited at SNEC in Shanghai, China, was designed and optimized based on the traditional N-Type panel (TWMND-72HD), incorporating TNC technology, of great rectangular silicon cells.

“The maximum power can reach 625 W, increasing by more than 30 W compared with the 72-cell TOPCon product with size 182 mm, and the efficiency reached up to 23.20%,” he pointed out.

TW Solar HJT Technology

In terms of heterojunction, the manufacturer reported that it is still developing the technology and exploring increasing its limits. In 2021, they completed the first HJT module production line, and in early 2023, they completed the development of the first microcrystalline silicon bifacial cell using 210 mm cells.

In March 2023, for example, they set a new world record for efficiency in the mass production of heterojunction cells, achieving a conversion efficiency of 26.18%.

Furthermore, the power of Tongwei's bifacial HJT module with 210mm cells set three new power records in 2023, reaching 732.60 W. The N-Type module (TWMHF-66HD), displayed at SNEC, has a maximum power of 730W.

Regarding the application of THC technology, used for the production of heterojunction modules, the company has achieved a series of advances, adopting copper interconnect technology (THL), ultra-thin silicon wafer, microcrystalline silicon bifacial cell, incorporating doping of high-performance target materials and light injection.

Among the advantages, according to the company, are: high efficiency and high energy generation, which can effectively increase the efficiency of the modules by more than 1%. “The successful application of copper interconnect technology has significantly reduced the metallization cost of the THC module, further reducing the cost gap with PERC, leading the photovoltaic industry into a silver-free era.”

“In the future, with the incorporation of copper interconnect technology, microcrystalline silicon bifacial cell technology and others, the path to reducing costs and increasing efficiency of TW Solar's THC will become clearer, accelerating the entry into production in scale”, highlighted the manufacturer’s technical director.

Other products on display at Intersolar Europe

At the event, Tongwei will present the Terra series panels, which have received French carbon footprint certification and are suitable for the residential market.

In 2022, the sales volume of such products in Europe reached 3 GW, and one in seven households that installed the roof panels chose the company's Terra series.

As for the half-cell modules, which will also be on display at the company's stand at Intersolar Europe, Tongwei emphasized that they have greater power, a higher energy generation rate on both sides and a better temperature coefficient.

“The 182mm 72-cell TNC half-cells produced by TW Solar have a power output of over 580W, compared to PERC modules of the same size and specification,” said Jack Xu.

“The power, in this case, is 25 W to 30 W higher; the power generation rate on both sides is higher than 10% to 15% and the average power generation gain per watt is up to 3% to 4%, aiming to achieve greater power generation gain”, he concluded.

TW Solar's global positioning

The company's modules are exported to more than 40 countries on all continents. According to Tongwei, it has been operating globally, with its team, directly from its headquarters in Chengdu, China, and establishing itself in several local markets, through the creation of specialized teams with experienced professionals in their respective markets, providing solutions integrated sales and after-sales services.

In 2022, TW Solar's panel sales volume reached 7.94 GW, placing it among the top ten global companies in the industry. By 2023, panel production capacity is planned to reach 80 GW, with an expected sales volume of 35 GW.

“From technology to production capacity, from silicon materials to modules, Tongwei is accelerating its expansion at all stages of the industry chain, advancing rapidly as a giant of vertical integration on the international stage”, highlighted Sobreira.

“In the future, we will continue to innovate, providing more high-quality and high-efficiency products to the industry, contributing to the sustainable development of clean energy worldwide”, concluded the executive.
