After starting the operation of a mini solar plant on the AC Simões Campus, the Federal University of Alagoas is completing the installation of three more photovoltaic systems at the Renewable Energy Engineering Center (CEER), at the Agricultural Engineering and Sciences Campus (Ceca), in Rio Largo (AL).
The systems total more than 100 kWp of installed power, distributed across two blocks and the parking lot. The investment totaled R$ 552 thousand.

According to Ufal, in addition to the perspective of energy efficiency and savings on electricity bills, the investment represents an important field of research and technological development for researchers and engineering students in renewable energy.
The work is nearing completion, but the photovoltaic solar systems have already been put into operation. The installation of the plants was monitored by professor Márcio André, as contract manager, and by professor Leonardo Faustino, as technical and administrative inspector. “The three systems include 200 540Wp modules, totaling 108 kWp”, informs Márcio André.
Professor Leonardo Souza, from the Energy Engineering course and researcher of concentrated solar thermal energy and power electronics, highlights the importance of CEER's photovoltaic systems for the Campus. “The systems will enable self-sufficiency in electrical energy, reducing Ufal’s expenses.”
“Through the bifacial photovoltaic modules installed in the two blocks and on the roof of the center's parking lot, solar energy will be converted into electrical energy without emission of greenhouse gases, in a direct, silent and renewable way”, he details.
