A Unipar, leader in the production of chlorine and soda and the second largest producer of PVC in South America, announced a contract to advance the acquisition of electrical energy generated by the Lar do Sol complex, built in partnership with Atlas Renewable Energy, in Pirapora (MG).
Fruit of joint venture signed in 2021, the complex has a capacity of 239 MW of solar energy, of which 49 average MW were originally contracted to supply part of the demand from the company's units in Brazil, starting in January 2024. O contract guarantees early access to energy, since the complex has already come into operation.
Unipar has three projects focused on renewable energy, this being solar and two more wind farms – in Bahia and Rio Grande do Norte – which, in total, have an installed capacity of 485 MW, with 149 average MW directed to Unipar's operations, on a self-production basis.
O Investment in initiatives aimed at generating renewable energy is in line with Unipar's sustainability guidelines, which aims to double its size in ten years and has assumed ambitious goals and commitments in the medium and short term.
Among them, reducing the carbon footprint, reducing CO² emissions by 30% by 2030 and reaching Net Zero by 2050 and operating with 80% of electricity demand from renewable self-production projects by 2024. Furthermore, these projects guarantee access in the long term to clean energy, an input that represents around 50% of chlorine/soda production costs.
