O Brazil surpassed, in September, the mark of 7 GW of installed capacity in 2023, ending the month with 7.13 GW coming from 208 plants opened throughout the year, according to data published by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) this Monday (9).
Of this amount, the wind and solar plants were responsible for 89.2% of installed capacity in the year, with 6.36 GW. The plants that started operating this year are located in 18 Brazilian states.
The states of Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia were the ones who presented the greater volume of installed capacity in the first nine months of the year, with 1,815 GW; 1,778 GW and 1,775 GW, respectively.
In terms of the month of September alone, Rio Grande do Norte had the biggest jump, of 114.0 MW, and São Paulo had the second biggest expansion, with 40.1 MW.
Throughout its history, Brazil has over 195,718 GW of supervised power, and of this total in operation, more than 83% are from plants considered renewable.
