The mining company Vale announced that it will build a photovoltaic solar plant in Jaíba (MG), including 17 subparks totaling an installed capacity of 766 MWp.

The project, called Solar Sol do Cerrado, also includes the implementation of a step-up substation, transmission line and connection bay at the Jaíba Substation at 230 kV, with contracts signed for connection to the SIN (National Interconnected System).

In total, US$ 500 million (around R$ 2,850 billion) will be invested in the program. According to the company, the contribution is a strategic alternative that, in addition to helping to achieve sustainability and competitiveness goals, will provide a reduction of around US$ 70 million per year in electricity costs.

The project, scheduled for operation in the fourth quarter of 2022, will produce approximately 190 average MW of energy per year, which corresponds to 13% of Vale's estimated demand in 2025.
