O Brazil officially received, at the beginning of this Friday (22), the arrival of the first day summer's, a season known for its high temperatures and sunny days.
To the Solar Channel, Lara Marques, commercial analyst and solar energy specialist at Climate, points out that, despite summer being one of the seasons with the highest incidence of solar radiation, season presents challenges significant for the efficiency of photovoltaic systems in the country.
"While Many associate summer with maximum efficiency in photovoltaic generation, the truth is that, depending on the location, This season can be characterized by intense rain and dense clouds", highlights.
According to the professional, these conditions reduce the capacity to capture solar radiation, compromising energy production.
Furthermore, the extreme temperatures and common at that time too negatively influence equipment performance, as they can increase cell degradation depending on the temperature coefficient of the photovoltaic module.
Lara further explains that not only solar generation faces challenges in the summer, but also energy consumption.
“Rising temperatures lead to an increase in the use of devices such as air conditioning, resulting in higher electrical demand. More frequent baths and other heat-related habits contribute to an exponential increase in energy consumption”, she highlights.
The positive side of summer
Despite the challenges mentioned, Lara highlights that summer is not devoid of benefits for photovoltaic generation, as the season is characterized by longer days, that is, with more hours of sunlight.
“In addition, it is a super opportunity for hybrid systems, such as energy storage systems or clean fuel generators. Therefore, summer still highlights opportunities that can be explored to optimize solar energy production”, he pointed out.
Spring: the true peak of solar energy
Contrary to common perception, Lara explains that solar generation records occur, most of the time, during spring – a season where temperatures are also high, but milder than in summer.
Furthermore, rain showers are less abrupt at first than in summer. “This all creates ideal conditions for the production of solar energy, with a more controlled increase in energy consumption”, reveals the Climatempo professional.
Influence of El Niño
This year, the presence of El Niño adds an element of unpredictability to the scenario, as the meteorological phenomenon is characterized by the abnormal warming of the waters of the Pacific Ocean, intensifying the heat and affecting rainfall patterns.
With the influence of El Niño, this year's summer in Brazil should be marked by rain showers generated by heat and high humidity, and not by large and persistent areas of instability, as occurred in previous years, according to information from Climatempo.
