A Alive inaugurated in the Federal District, in partnership with Athon Energia, a new photovoltaic distributed generation plant. In total, the operator has 23 plants in operation in the country.

According to the company, “Brasília 200” is installed in the rural area of Paranoá and will inject energy into the CEB (Companhia Energética de Brasília) distribution company network.

The system generates 11,766 MWh/year and has an installed capacity of 6.93 MWp. In the construction stage, 150 jobs were created, both direct and indirect, and in the operation phase there will be 20 jobs.

This plant adds to the production of “Brasília 100”, opened in January, also in Paranoá. Together, they now serve all of Vivo's 535 low voltage consumer units in the Federal District – such as stores, offices, antennas and transmission equipment.

Of the 85 plants in Vivo's distributed generation program planned for all of Brazil, nine are in the Center-West, two of which are in the Federal District.

The project as a whole will account for 89% of low voltage consumption, serving more than 30 thousand company units across the country and generating around 711 thousand MWh/year of energy.

“Distributed generation further consolidates Vivo’s sustainable business model based on Environmental, Social and Governance factors and reaffirms our potential for long-term value generation,” said Caio Guimarães, Director of Equity at Vivo.

“It also reinforces the commitment to maintain our 100% renewable electricity consumption, boosts efficiency, promotes the local economy and contributes to cost reduction”, he highlighted.

Vivo 100% renewable

Vivo's energy consumption has been completely renewable since November 2018, when the company went from consuming 26% from clean sources – obtained both on the free market and in distributed generation – to 100%, through the acquisition of energy certificates, the I-RECs (International Renewable Energy Certificates).

The acquisition allowed the company to bring forward its fully sustainable consumption target by 12 years, which was scheduled for 2030. This also helped to reduce its CO2 emissions by 70% in relation to 2015, and enabled progress to neutralize gas emissions causes of the greenhouse effect. Since 2019, Vivo has also been carbon neutral.
