Voith Paper, through its FRS division, is investing in two solar plants in the form of self-production of energy at the paper and cellulose units in Mucuri, in Bahia, and Ponta Grossa, in Paraná.
The value of the investment was not revealed, but the company highlighted that the business is part of a series of environmental initiatives developed by the company.
Already implemented, the Mucuri plant has 43.4 kWp, with the capacity to supply 95% of the factory's annual energy consumption. The Ponta Grossa system will have 183.8 kWp, with the capacity to meet 84% of the unit's demand.
The installation was carried out by Sunergia solar energy. The photovoltaic modules used in the projects are from the Aurora series from Tier 1 manufacturer AE Solar.
When completed, the projects will together have 450 photovoltaic modules and 227 kWp of capacity, expected to save R$ 190 thousand per year in electricity costs.
Voith informed that it has invested in its own energy generation in several locations. Solar self-generation has already been implemented at the group's units in Germany and India.
Voith Paper plans to self-generate an additional 1.8 GWh/year of electricity globally through the installation of photovoltaic systems.
Solar power generation projects are being planned at several Voith sites, including São Paulo, Düren and Weißenborn (Germany), Tolosa (Spain), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Hyderabad and Vadodara (India) and Shanghai (China).
In 2022, Voith globally generated 8.2 GWh of electricity from solar and hydropower sources. The target is to increase to 16 GWh/year by the end of fiscal year 2026/27.
