A Voltalia announced this Wednesday (17) the start of construction of the Sable Blanc project, located in French Guiana, which combines a 5 MW photovoltaic plant with a 10.6 MWh lithium ion battery storage system.
According to the company, this combination will allow electricity produced during the day to be injected into the grid at night, improving the stability of energy production. Commissioning of Sable Blanc is scheduled for the end of 2022.
“The future plant, located close to the ocean coast and the border with Suriname, in the city of Mana, will produce 7.43 GWh per year, equivalent to the electricity needs of around 3 thousand inhabitants of western Guyana”, highlighted the company in note.
With this launch, the Toco complex, of which Sable Blanc is part, will increase to a power of 19.3 MW. “This new program demonstrates our ability to support Guyana’s energy transition,” highlighted Sébastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia.
Clerc also said that the initiative is eagerly awaited to help improve the electrical system in a region where the growth in demand for electricity is increasing drastically and to replace the existing diesel in Saint Laurent du Maroni.
