The Brazilian multinational White Martins will build and operate a second electrolyzer to produce green hydrogen for the Southeast region of Brazil.

According to the manufacturer of industrial and medicinal gases, the new plant will have a 5 MW pressurized alkaline electrolyzer and will be built next to the company's current air gas separation facility in Jacareí (SP).

According to the company, the new plant will be powered by renewable energy of local projects solar and wind energy, and green hydrogen will be certified by an independent company.

When it comes into operation, the new White Martins plant will supply green hydrogen to the Cebrace glass manufacturer as part of its emissions reduction program.

In addition to using green hydrogen in its production, the customer will receive the product through a gas pipeline, replacing the service provided by trucks.

In addition to the market in the state of São Paulo, the plant will also meet the demand for green hydrogen from current and new White Martins customers in Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais in various industrial sectors, including metallurgy, food, chemicals, among others. It is expected to begin operating in 2025.

In 2022, White Martins was the first company to produce internationally certified green hydrogen on an industrial scale in South America, at its plant in Pernambuco.

“Investing in green hydrogen in the industrial heart of São Paulo reaffirms our commitment to the Brazilian energy transition”, says Gilney Bastos, president of White Martins and Linde in South America.

“We are committed to ensuring that Cebrace and all our customers achieve their decarbonization objectives, while at the same time contributing to the construction of a low-carbon economy,” the company said.
