High electricity bill
In March this year, a survey released by Embraceel (Brazilian Association of Energy Traders) revealed that in the last eight years (between 2015 and 2022) the electricity bill of Brazilian residential consumers increased by more than 70%.
This is a higher level than the evolution of the IPCA (Broad National Consumer Price Index) – Brazil's official inflation, which was 58% in the period, and the Free Energy Market, where prices reduced by 9%.
For 2023, ANEEL estimates that the tariff will rise, on average, by 5.6%, but that in some states the increase will exceed the barrier of 14%. It is worth remembering that energy tariffs are readjusted annually by the Agency, according to the “anniversary” of each concessionaire’s contract.
