What factors should be considered when it comes to roof weather?

A recurring question in the solar energy market is whether the age of the roof matters in a photovoltaic installation.

To answer this question, the Solar Channel spoke with specialist Augusto César Polinário, commercial analyst at Solar Group.

According to him, age can and should be considered, as time of use has a lot to do with safety.

“What really counts is the condition the roof is in, and the older it is, the greater the likelihood of damage,” highlighted Polinário.

“Usually it’s broken tiles and leaks. In the worst cases, the structure may be damaged, with cracks and humidity”, he pointed out.

The expert also highlighted that the ideal is to always replace the damaged tile, as trying to fix it could cause more problems in the future. “There is no more suitable tile, each one has its own characteristics, varying the type of solution that will be used”.

Furthermore, Polinário always recommends a technical visit before starting the installation of a photovoltaic system. This measurement is important in order to know and analyze the roof structure, type and age, after all, it is the roof that will receive the fixing support that will support the additional weight of the plant.

“This technical visit must be carried out by a trained professional. And it is essential that a report is carried out on the structure – in order to analyze the condition of the roof and ensure that it can withstand the additional load from the photovoltaic system. This ensures that it is secure and secure”, he explained.

  1. Great theme! There have already been several problematic cases due to roofs with tiles and structures that have already been well used over time.
