A new 161 MW plant will be built in the municipality of João Dourado, in Bahia. The investment, whose value was not revealed, is a partnership between Acelen, the Perfin Infra fund and Illian Energias Renováveis, a company from the Electra Group.

Acelen also signed a long-term self-production contract, including, in addition to the purchase of energy, carbon credits generated by the future plant. The project is expected to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the semi-arid region of Bahia, with the creation of 500 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase and around 30 jobs after the start of operations in the first quarter of 2025.

“The project represents another step towards the energy transition, reaffirming one of its main objectives, through investment in new renewable energy projects in the Northeast. Combined with other energy efficiency initiatives being implemented at the refinery, it will contribute to reducing the carbon index and fossil component of Acelen's results and energy matrix”, says Luiz de Mendonça, CEO of Acelen.

“For Perfin Infra, it is an important milestone, as it strengthens our contribution to the state of Bahia and confirms our commitment to the energy transition”, says Daniel Shinohara, investment partner at Perfin Infra.

“For Illian, the agreement means the reaching of maturity of this new entrepreneurial company, Brazilian 100%, focused on the development and investment in centralized renewable generation projects, contributing to the country's sustainable economic growth.”, states CEO Sérgio Brandão.

The closing of the transaction is subject to compliance with the usual precedent conditions for projects of this nature.
