Electricity bills can now be paid through Pix, the Brazilian instant payment. The announcement was released at the opening of the 10th Plenary Session of the Central Bank's Pix Forum, held this Thursday (20). With the new payment method, the invoice can be paid any day of the week at any time, electronically and at no additional cost.

According to Rodrigo Limp, Secretary of Electric Energy at the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), by guaranteeing immediate payment, Pix speeds up the reconnection of energy, in the case of residences and commercial establishments that are subject to verification of effective payment. Today, this process takes days due to the characteristics of the payment method usually used to settle invoices.

“The possibility of paying electricity bills through Pix represents another important advance in serving electricity consumers, bringing agility and reducing operational costs”, commented Limp.

For André Pepitone, general director of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), the measure aims to make consumers' routine easier. “Through this modern initiative, consumers gain another option to pay, at any time and day, their bill electronically without having to go to bank branches, lottery agencies or distributor service points”, highlighted Pepitone.

This measure should facilitate the activities of energy distributors, as Pix is faster and cheaper for them to receive payment for providing the service. Furthermore, ANEEL stated that it will communicate with energy distribution companies and Confaz (National Council for Financial Policy) so that Pix reaches all service providers and is suitable for issuing energy invoices. electrical.
