The new Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, announced that it will create a national energy transition secretariat, dedicated exclusively, according to him, to structuring public policy to place the Brazil as a world leader in clean energy.
The announcement was made this Monday (2), during the assumption of office ceremony, in Brasília (DF).
In his speech, Silveira stated that the planning of the Department's actions will be essential to guarantee energy so that the country can develop and move sectors such as industry and agriculture, in addition to generate jobs and income for the population.
“We will concentrate efforts to modernize our generation park, invest in technology and optimize management (…) The future must be guided towards innovation and the expansion of renewable sources, combined with the incorporation of storage and hydrogen technologies. low carbon”, stated the minister.
The new minister also highlighted the importance of the country work towards more legal security for contracts and regulatory security for agents. He also highlighted the importance of Brazil attracting investments in the electricity sector, in order to ensure that new risks of blackouts do not occur, as was the case in 2021.
For this reason, the creation of new secretary is considered by him as a way of help diversify the national matrix. “We will concentrate our efforts on modernizing our generation park, investing in technology and optimizing management, always looking at the balance between reasonable tariffs and reliability of supply”, he stated.
Light for All
The minister also spoke about the importance of advancing social policies, such as the conclusion of the Light for All Program – which aims to serve Brazilian families who still do not have access to energy.
The program was created during the Lula administration and has been running since 2004. Under Bolsonaro, a specific version was created for populations in remote regions of the Legal Amazon, called More Light for the Amazon.
“We need to universalize access to energy and eliminate electrical poverty. Therefore, we will work to complete the Luz para Todos program, bringing cheaper, more stable and cleaner electricity to every corner of our Brazil”, said Silveira.
