Tariff rise is a window of opportunity for investment in solar energy

To the Residential electricity rates have increased by 70% in the last eight years, between 2015 and 2022. The increase exceeds an inflation of 58% (IPCA) and 9% in the free energy market, in the same period, according to a recent survey by Abraceel (Brazilian Association of Energy Traders).

In 2023, in Minas Gerais, the invoice should be 11% most expensive, according to Cemig, far exceeding the 5.96% forecast for the IPCA for the year.

The increase results from several factors, including the injunction granted by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) suspending the differentiated calculation in the collection of ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services) on the electricity sector.

In Minas, the tariff without taxes is currently R $0.653 per kWh consumed. With taxes, the value becomes approximately R$ 0.833 per kWh spent.

Miners will also feel the impact of another rule. ANEEL authorizes electricity companies to apply a tariff review every four years, and in April, Cemig must disclose how much this increase will amount to.

In other words, the energy tariff in Minas could easily exceed the value of R$ 1 per kWh, without considering the application of “tariff flags” used as a way of trying to inhibit electricity consumption in dry months.

In this scenario, investment in solar energy becomes increasingly attractive and accessible, with generous credit lines.

From an economic point of view, the money invested in purchasing and installing the equipment begins to “pay for itself” on the first day of use, with a payback period of four to seven years, depending on the state where it is installed.

As the useful life of the cards is up to 25 years, the user will only pay the fee for using the electricity network for a period of 18 to 21 years.

Furthermore, surplus energy produced and not used can be negotiated with the local distribution company itself or through cooperatives, which helps to reduce the time it takes to pay for the amount invested.

This excess energy can be used even by those who do not have space to place signs on their property. Through cooperatives and subscription plans, it is possible to obtain an average discount on the electricity bill of 10% to 20%, depending on the contract, as long as it is within the same concession area as the operators.

Regardless of the solution chosen to adopt solar energy, your wallet and the planet will thank you.

  1. Useful life of the plates 25 years???

This is the performance guarantee period, that is, the period in which the manufacturer guarantees that the panel will generate above 80% of the board's nominal power.
In the case of AE Solar, it is 30 years.

From this period onwards, the board continues to generate and depends on the degradation of the silicon, the photovoltaic cell material, and the quality of manufacturing, so that it does not heat up, especially in the connections between cells, which accelerates degradation.
