ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) opened public consultation (CP 12/2023) to discuss the improvement of the Five-Year Strategic Innovation Plan (PEQuI 2023-2028) of the PDI Research, Development and Innovation Program.

With the aim of increasing innovation production by the end of 2028, The plan will address the following topics:

  • Digitalization of the Brazilian electricity sector;
  • Energy storage systems;
  • Cybersecurity;
  • Hydrogen;
    Electrification of the economy;
  • Renewable energy, Environment and Climate change;
  • New support technologies – Artificial Intelligence, Virtual and augmented reality.

“The idea with PEQul is to make PDI Aneel a global reference in network innovation in the electric energy sector, creating startups, generating the biggest impacts and being essential for improving the provision of electric energy services and customer service”, he says to Aneel.

During the public consultation, the Agency expects to receive contributions that address the following topics:

Transparency: Contributions that ensure that it is clear to society how the PEQuI measures benefit it will be essential. The system developed by ANEEL must be effective in this sense;

Oversight: special attention is also requested from society to the mechanisms for inspecting and monitoring resources, so as to avoid their excessive accumulation, to the detriment of the implementation of the planned initiatives;

Local reality: Society is also asked in a special way about the need and effectiveness of devices that favor actions with direct impacts on local communities;

Social vulnerability: in a similar way, it is requested that the need and effectiveness of devices that favor actions with direct impacts on the most needy consumers, in conditions of social vulnerability, be evaluated with special attention;

Present problems: another point that deserves attention is that PEQuI, in addition to focusing on future problems, must also address the set of problems closest to consumers and thus bring more concrete and immediate solutions. Among these issues, the cost of electricity services for the poorest families stands out;

Integration: The importance of contributions that point out ways in which the system developed by Aneel, as far as possible, can be integrated or communicate effectively with other platforms of significant importance for the topic is highlighted, in order to facilitate access to information and society.

CNPE Normative Resolution No. 2/2021: Finally, it is essential that society scrutinizes the compatibility of the PEQuI proposal with the provisions of CNPE Normative Resolution No. 2/2021, which established guidelines on research, development and innovation in the energy sector in Brazil.

Interested parties can send contributions to an electronic form to be made available from 4/6 to 5/22/2023 in the space referring to Public Consultation 12/2023. Consult here. There will be an in-person session to discuss the topic in Brasília, with a date and time to be defined later.
