After 96 hours, power is partially restored in Amapá

The restoration occurred partially in Macapá, with the transformer load level reaching 100 MW

After three days of blackout, power supply is being partially resumed in Amapá. The state has been suffering from a power outage since Tuesday night (3) after the explosion at the substation in the capital Macapá damaged the transformer at the Isolux substation.

According to the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), the equipment was recovered and connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN) at 5:05 am on Saturday (7). The restoration occurred partially in Macapá, with the transformer load level reaching 100 MW.

“We will receive around 50% to 60% of the energy necessary to meet the needs of consumers in the state throughout the day. Given this limitation, CEA will control this distribution, primarily serving essential services and then other segments”, declared Marcos Pereira, CEO of CEA (Companhia de Eletricidade do Amapá).

Power rotation

With the exception of essential services, the other UCs (consumer units) will undergo energy rotation at intervals of six hours throughout the state.

“Consumers must now be prepared for this rotation and take the necessary safety and energy-saving measures until the other transformers are implemented, which will allow the company to fully serve the entire state”, explained the president of the CEA.

Affected population

The blackout affected 14 of the state's 16 cities, where around 782 thousand people live, representing approximately 90% of the state's population. The municipalities of Oiapoque and Laranjal do Jari, located in the north and extreme south, respectively, were not impacted by the power outage.

Emergency energy generation contracting

On Friday (6), the Ordinance No. 406, in an extra edition of the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union), authorizing the contracting, in a rapid, exceptional and temporary manner, of electrical energy generation in the amount of up to 150 MW, in Amapá.

According to the MME, the contract will be for up to 180 days or even a shorter period, if the CMSE (Electricity Sector Monitoring Committee) recognizes a satisfactory condition of service for the state.

To make electrical service to the state viable, the committee determined, during an extraordinary meeting on Friday, that Eletrobras Eletronorte will arrange for the contracting, initially, of 40 MW of electrical energy generation. The measure is part of a set of actions that have been developed between the Federal and State Governments.
