The State Bank of Rio Grande do Sul (Banrisul) will launch a second notice, still this semester, for leasing distributed solar generation plants, aiming to meet the demand of approximately 400 low voltage branches.

This is the bank's second move in the transition to low-carbon energy consumption. In September last year, 2W Ecobank (formerly 2W Energia) won the tender to migrate 100 medium voltage branches to the free market.

The migration process began in October last year. To date, around 30 of the institution's branches already consume 100% renewable energy, including the Bank's Data Center, in Porto Alegre. The proposal envisages the supply of energy with a consumption of 15,000 MWh/year. The contracted energy is from wind sources.

“With the two notices, we have a forecast of R$ 50 million in savings over the contract period”, details Banrisul’s Engineering Manager, Vânia Tibério.

The energy transition process is aligned with Banrisul's sustainability strategy, which includes other fronts. Among them is the Social, Environmental and Climate Responsibility Policy, with guidelines for progress in reducing Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and environmental and climate impacts, linked to energy consumption and other socio-environmental projects.

“The project also includes important advances in mitigating Greenhouse Gas emissions related to electricity consumption, enabling the choice to purchase energy from a renewable 100% source and contributing to Banrisul’s new positioning in the sustainability pillar”, reports the institution's Sustainability manager, Viviane Costa.
