With the prospect of an increase in the PLD, this year started strong in the ACL (Free Contracting Environment) and the BBCE (Brazilian Energy Trading Counter) registered a historic record month, with a significant increase in all indicators.
Approximately 66 thousand GWh were traded, an increase of 111% compared to December 2023 and 113% compared to January last year.
According to Alexandre Thorpe, president of BBCE, the market began to foresee an increase in prices, which brought back volatility. Unlike other times, products with a deadline of more than one month stood out.
“In January of this year, 89.9% of operations were maturing in more than one month, which differs from the 78.8% recorded throughout 2023,” he states.
In addition to recording a monthly record, in January BBCE also had the biggest trading session in history. On the 26th of the first month of the year, 1,989 GWh were transacted, which exceeds by more than 100% the last daily record, which occurred on the 18th of that same month.
“It is worth noting that this date was an amendment to a municipal holiday in São Paulo, a city that brings together a large part of Brazil's sales companies”, highlights Thorpe.
January's volume was divided into approximately 6.2 thousand operations, an increase of 147% compared to December and 206% compared to the same month of the previous year.
The financial amount was also greater, given the high perspective of the PLD (Difference Settlement Price) and volume, reaching R$ 7 billion, an increase of 129% compared to January 2023 and 144% compared to December 2023.
