Measure aims to reduce the United States' dependence on gas and oil

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, issued on Monday (6) determinations that give the DOE (Department of Energy) of the United States authority to use the DPA (Defense Production Act) to accelerate the domestic production of five key energy technologies, including solar.

According to the American government, the determinations are part of the Biden government's plan that aims to reduce energy costs for families, strengthen national security and achieve North American energy independence thus reducing the demand for fossil fuels and reinforcing the clean energy economy.

“President Biden invoked the Defense Production Act so the U.S. can take ownership of its clean energy independence,” he said Jennifer Granholm, Secretary of Energy of the USA.

“For too long, the country’s clean energy supply chain has depended on foreign sources and adversary nations. With the new DPA authority, DOE can help strengthen the domestic solar energy, heat pump, and grid manufacturing industries, strengthening the economic security of the United States and creating good-paying jobs and reducing utility costs over the long term. way,” Jennifer added.

To the Kathleen Hicks, Deputy Secretary of Defense, reducing the United States' dependence on gas and oil is fundamental to the country's national security. “In conflict, fossil fuel supply lines are especially vulnerable. The actions President Biden announced will help strengthen our supply chains and ensure that the United States is a leader in the production of energy technologies that are essential to our future success,” Kathleen emphasized.

According to the American government, the demand for clean energy technologies, such as solar panels, has increased significantly as the costs of these technologies have plummeted over the past decade. Also according to the Biden government, the decision made will allow the federal government to invest in companies that can build clean energy facilities and expand the manufacturing of this type of technology.

Survey by the United States Department of Energy points to the solar energy photovoltaic as the largest source of generating capacity in the USA and cheapest in many regions of the country. However, domestic solar energy production does not meet current demand.

“By supporting a secure, stable, diverse and competitive domestic solar supply chain, President Biden's actions will enhance national security, promote energy independence, help address the urgent threat of climate change and reduce energy costs for consumers Americans,” the United States Department of Energy said in a press release.
