A BMW will expand the use of solar energy in your motorcycle factory, in Manaus (AM), from 2024. The automaker reported that it will install a solar panel cover with an area of approximately 1,200 m².
According to the technical specifications of the project, the supply will be approximately 30% of the current energy demand of the manufacturing unit – which is equivalent to the manufacture of around 5 thousand motorcycles, considering the annual production capacity of 17 thousand units.
A company started investing in solar energy, in Manaus (AM), with a small photovoltaic panel project installed in factory parking lot and, after the results, he opted to expand the project.
“We started with a small attempt, 15 modules installed in the parking lot, and now we will take a bigger step with this project. Just to give you an idea, the expectation is that, in 25 years, more than 2 thousand tons of CO2 will stop being emitted into the atmosphere”, said Alex Donatti, director of the BMW factory in Manaus.
According to the executive, the Expansion of the plant is in line with the automaker’s objectives: reduce CO2 emissions per vehicle by 80% in production, 50% in use and 20% in suppliers, when compared to the company's rates in 2019.
Actions already developed
In addition to using solar energy, the BMW factory, in Manaus (AM), also conducts recycling actions, without waste being sent to landfills.
The furniture in the rest area, for example, is produced from wooden pallets from the industrial process.
The unit also operates under low water and energy consumption policies, through periodic monitoring and controlled by goals (KPIs), and low emission and containment of pollutants.
The inauguration of building 3 of the factory, in 2023, for example, represented, in addition to the logistical gain for the company, a projected drop of around 35% in CO² emissions in the distribution of motorcycles.
