BNDES creates new structure for issuing green bonds

BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) launched its SBF (Sustainability Bond Framework), a document that facilitates the bank's issuance of green, social and sustainable bonds, in Brazil and abroad. 

Such resources to be raised based on this initiative, developed from technical cooperation signed with the IDB (Inter-American Development Bank), will be used to finance and refinance new or existing projects in the BNDES portfolio.

Program models eligible for resource allocation cover categories that include, for example, renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable water management and clean transport.

According to the company, the project expands the funding possibilities provided for in the Green Bond Framework launched in 2017, which allowed BNDES to be the first Brazilian bank to issue this type of bond, in the international capital market, and the first institution financial institution to issue green financial letters in 2020, in the local market. 

Expansion of credit lines for renewable projects

A survey carried out by Solar Channel pointed out that at least four banks expect growth in operations in their credit lines focused on renewables this year: Banco do Nordeste, Banco do Brasil, Santander and Caixa.  Click here and check the values contracted in 2020 and expectations for 2021.
