O Brazil has just reached the milestone 5,500 municipalities with at least one solar energy system installed in the distributed micro and minigeneration segment, according to data published by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

According to IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), the Brazil today has 5,570 cities spread across 26 states plus the Federal District (DF) – which means that the The source is already present in over 99% locations across the country.

Until now, only 70 municipalities do not benefit from the source. A most of them, According to ANEEL itself, it is in difficult-to-access locations, especially in the northern region of the country, as is the case of the Legal Amazon region.

This is, in fact, one of the reasons why the Federal Government organizes itself to bring solar energy systems to these regions, through social programs, such as Luz para Todos and Mais Luz para a Amazônia.

Such programs aim to democratize access and use of electrical energy through the use of clean and renewable energy generation systems. The projects serve low-income families or beneficiaries of federal social development programs, rural settlements, indigenous communities and quilombola territories.

Last month, both programs were extended until 2026 and 2030, after publication of a decree in the Official Gazette of the Union. Previously, the initiatives were scheduled to end at the end of 2022.

States with GD Solar

In total, 13 states plus the DF already have solar systems in the DG segment installed in all their municipalities. Minas Gerais was the last of them to reach the mark.

In the Southeast region, only the state of São Paulo does not yet have solar installed in all of its 645 municipalities. There are only four cities left to reach these numbers.

In the South and Central-West regions, the states of Rio Grande do Sul, with 497 cities, and Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, with 141 and 79, respectively, are the federative units that, for now, have Solar GD in all its municipalities.

In the South, Paraná and Santa Catarina still need to reach the mark, while in the Central-West, only the state of Goiás needs to “do its part”.

In the Northeast, only four of the nine states in the region still do not have solar energy distributed in all their municipalities: Maranhão, Piauí, Paraíba and Sergipe. In contrast, Ceará; large northern river; Pernambuco; Alagoas It is Bahia already has 100% in its cities with at least one system installed.

In the North region, only Rondônia and Tocantins have all of their 52 and 139 municipalities, respectively, with at least one system on roofs, facades and small and medium-sized plots of land. The situation in Amazonas draws attention, which has only 34 of 62 cities with solar energy in the DG segment.
