O Brazil took 7th position in the ranking of the 10 countries that created the most jobs in the world in solar energy in the year 2020, according to a report recently released by IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency). Now, the country is ahead of historical leaders in the sector, such as Germany and the United Kingdom.
Rodrigo Sauaia, CEO of ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association), celebrated the milestone and highlighted that Brazil is a solar nation by nature, with privileged conditions to become a prominent global leader in the sector.
“Photovoltaic solar energy will have an increasingly strategic role in achieving the socioeconomic and sustainable development goals of Brazil and other countries. It will greatly help in the recovery of the economy, being the renewable source that generates the most jobs on the planet”, he highlighted.
Also according to the IRENA report, the renewable energy sector generated 12 million jobs worldwide in 2020, with the majority participation of photovoltaic solar sources, responsible for more than 3.9 million jobs, representing a third of the total.
Ronaldo Koloszuk, president of the Board of Directors of ABSOLAR, emphasized that the growth of solar energy brings quality jobs in all regions of Brazil, reducing electricity bills and guaranteeing income for the population.
“Therefore, at this time of high unemployment, low level of hydroelectric reservoirs, red flag and extra 'water scarcity' tariff being charged on the electricity bill, it is essential to encourage the advancement of solar energy, which is clean, competitive and a leader in generation of renewable jobs in the world”, he says.
Jobs in the solar sector in Brazil in 2021
According to a preliminary survey by ABSOLAR, Brazil recorded, from 2012 until the end of September this year, the creation of around 330 thousand jobs in the solar sector. According to the entity, the photovoltaic source has already brought the country more than R$ 57 billion in new investments and R$ 15.1 billion in revenue to public coffers, as well as avoiding the emission of more than 12.4 million tons of CO₂ in electricity generation.

Congratulations to you, for promoting an entire country and until now we have not even heard of the participation of any competent department from the Esplanada dos Ministérios. I am aware of the cooperative initiative in the communities of Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira. Big hug and congratulations.
