The growth of solar energy in Brazil continues at full steam. Chinese manufacturer Amerisolar announced that the new photovoltaic module factory will come into operation in early May in Minas Gerais. The initial production capacity will be between 100 and 200 MW.

Installed since the beginning of the year at Belo Horizonte International Airport, the multinational, which until then only imported and sold solar energy equipment, will now produce it in the capital of Minas Gerais.

According to Gustavo Henrique de Almeida, CEO of Amerisolar Brasil, with the contracts in place and the new financing, the company is already in great demand, both for commercialization in the domestic market and for export. “The idea is to earn R$100 million in this first year of operation alone,” he added.

This is the company's seventh factory, which already has units in China and Australia. Installation and operation in the airport sector will allow the material to be imported and used in a tax-free area, which will directly influence the final cost.

More MW for MG

According to ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association), Minas Gerais is the state with the largest installed capacity in Brazil. There are 456.5 MW of power.

In second place, the study points to Rio Grande do Sul, with an installed capacity of 348.2 MW of power. In third comes São Paulo (297.2 MW), followed by Paraná (214.4 MW) and Mato Grosso (147.9 MW).
