O Brazil surpassed, during the weekend of Christmas celebrations, the brand 23 GW of installed solar source capacity, according to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

The amount takes into account the operating power of large plants (centralized generation) and small self-generation systems (distributed generation).

The new This level was reached about a month after the source had registered 22 GW, on November 21st. At first week of January, there was 13 GW of power in operation.

Currently, the photovoltaic market national it has 15.93 GW in distributed generation and 7.07 GW in centralized generation.

With the growth recorded throughout 2022, the source began to occupy the third position in the Brazilian electrical matrix, second only to wind and hydro.

A ABSOLATE (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association) believes that, maintaining the current pace of advancement, the technology will assume vice-leadership in 2023.

Distributed generation

This year alone, solar distributed generation recorded an increase of 73.15% in its installed power, jumping from 9.2 GW on January 1st to the current 15.93 GW.

The modality also currently accounts for more than 1.52 million photovoltaic systems installed across the country, an increase of 127.5% compared to the same period last year, when there were 686 thousand connections.

Centralized generation

The GC segment recorded more than 52.6% of growth in the year: from 4.63 GW to the current 7.07 GW.

According to ANEEL, the The country also currently has another 5.01 GW in projects with construction started and more than 73 GW in projects with construction not yet started.

Predictions for 2023

Projections released, in the first week of December, by ABSOLATE assess that more than 10 GW of power will be added in Brazil in 2023, reaching a cumulative total of over 34 GW.

New investments generated by the sector are expected to exceed R$ 50 billion next year, with room for the creation of more than 300,000 jobs in all regions of the country.

Of the 34 GW planned, around 21.6 GW should come from distributed generation, while 12.4 GW should be added from large plants.
