Canadian signs two PPAs in Brazil and reaches historic milestone

In total, the photovoltaic projects will enable 862 MW of installed power

Canadian Solar announced that it signed a PPA (power purchase agreement) with BTG Pactual, one of the largest investment banks in Latin America, and two more projects through the Furnas private auction. In total, the photovoltaic plants will total 862 MW of installed power.

For the 12-year PPA with BTG, the manufacturer will supply around 170 MWp to a project located in Minas Gerais. Construction will begin in 2021 and is expected to enter commercial operation at the end of 2022.

With Furnas, the PPAs will be for 15 years and total 692 MWp. One of the plants will be located in Ceará and will have a capacity of 260 MWp. The second will be in Piauí and will have a capacity of 432 MWp. Both will begin construction in 2022 and are expected to enter commercial operation at the end of 2023.

According to Canadian, the solar plants will use high-power Series 7 bifacial modules of up to 665 Wp.

“We are pleased to partner with BTG and Furnas to provide clean solar energy to Brazilian consumers. I am also proud of our team's great work in expanding our leadership position in the solar project development market in Brazil,” said Shawn Qu, CEO of Canadian Solar.

After the 274 MWp in corporate PPAs we signed at the beginning of June, The volume of projects secured in this PPA and auction is the largest negotiated in our history, and increases our backlog of photovoltaic projects to almost 2.2 GWp,” added Qu.
