As one of the biggest costs of Cedae (State Water and Sewage Company of Rio de Janeiro) today is electricity consumption, the company opened a PMI (Expression of Interest Procedure) to obtain an energy efficiency project.

The expectation is to generate savings of up to 40% in the four main production units, which are large energy consumers. In addition to seeking to reduce costs, optimize operations and contribute to the issue of environmental sustainability by proposing the use of low-carbon energy.

“With measures like this, we intend to achieve a more productive, safer, more transparent Cedae that respects the environment”, comments Leonardo Soares, CEO of the Rio de Janeiro State Water and Sewage Company.

According to the mapping carried out by the company, in December last year, the expenses with electricity in four large production units of the company show that the Guandu and Laranjal treatment stations, the Imunana catchment and the Lameirão Elevatória consume, together , about R$ 43.77 million per month.

According to preliminary studies carried out by the company, the adoption of renewable energy in the company's plants can bring accumulated annual savings of R$ 2.4 billion to R$ 7.38 billion in up to 25 years. And among the positive impacts of this measure are environmental benefits from the generation of clean energy and social results from the generation of jobs with the implementation and operation of the projects.

Proposals submitted within 90 days

According to PMI, competitors will have 90 days to submit proposals to collect data and research to study the feasibility and design the project modeling. The expenses with this process would be paid by the eventual winner of a future tender, which may or may not be launched by Cedae.

Those interested in participating may contact the technical committee constituted by Cedae to request clarifications within five working days prior to the deadline for submitting the Authorization Request to carry out Technical Studies, by 6pm, to the email address licitacoes@cedae.com.br.

Another option is to deliver the written request to the company's headquarters building (Avenida Presidente Vargas n° 2655, Cidade Nova, Rio de Janeiro – RJ). The Company has up to two business days to provide a response.
