To make its operations more sustainable and reduce carbon emissions globally, Dow's innovation center for Latin America, located in Jundiaí (SP), became the company's fourth unit in Brazil to operate with 100% of renewable energy.

With the two new units in Jundiaí, added to the existing factories in Jacareí (SP) and Hortolândia (SP), the company will no longer emit around 925 tons of CO₂ per year.

Investment in the diversification of its energy matrices is part of the commitment made by the company as a way of ensuring that its operations have less impact on the environment.

Dow highlights, however, that one of its goals is to reduce annual CO₂ emissions by 5 million tons by 2030 and achieve neutrality by 2050.

The company also aims to ensure that 750 MW of its energy demand is met by renewable sources, such as wind, solar, biomass and PCH's (Small Hydroelectric Plants) by the year 2025.

According to Claudia Schaeffer, Dow's Energy Director for Latin America and Global Director of Climate and Energy, the company's strategy is to supply more sustainable electricity.

“Renewable sources allow the diversification and decentralization of the Brazilian electricity matrix. As a result of the migration of these four Dow units to the special consumer category, we will stop emitting 925 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year,” she said.

According to the company, the factory consumes around 80% of renewable energy, mainly from biomass, and is on track to reach 100% after the solar energy purchase contract.
